In the wake of what has been perhaps one of the most devastating natural disasters to hit Japan, the gaming industry is rising to do it’s part as the country looks to cover. An initiative called PlayForJapan is leading the way. There are numerous collectors items being auctioned off to raise money for the American Red Cross and other organisations so check out their website for more info. Given our penchant for vintage gaming around here though, I’ve picked this one out in particular.
Offered by veteran games journalist Steven Kent, this is a Super Mario Kart SNES cartridge, signed and illustrated by Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto.
Nintendo gaming legend Shigeru Miyamoto not only signed and dated this copy of Super Mario Kart for the Super NES, he drew Mario’s face on the label. A truly unique collectors item.
Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros., and Star Fox signed this cartridge using a Pilot Gold Marker on August 5, 2000.
Auction closes on March 25th, 17:42:20 PDT. 100% of the proceeds go to the American Red Cross.
Certainly a prize to be won there, in my opinion. Unfortunately, it’s out of my grasp.
